KHADI & VILLAGE INDUSTRIES

CHASS started Khadi& Village Industries (VI) Programme in the year 1977 with the financial assistance of Kerala Khadi & VI Board. In the year 1983, Khadi & VI Commission, Govt. of India included CHASS in their direct list and we have expanded the Khadi & VI Programme on a “three tier system” namely Training, Production and Marketing. The main focus of CHASS through KVI Programme are to provide employment to rural people in villages, creating self-reliance and building up a strong rural community with the support of KVIC.

Training Programme

We have started Khadi Gramodyog Vidyalaya at Mallappally in the year 1986. At present 21 training programmes are ongoing regularly at KGV Mallappally and its various extension centres. We train around 2500-3000 candidates per year. The following table would give particulars of the training.

Production Sector

CHASS in its various production centres produce Cotton & Muslin khadi, coloured shirts, Kuppadom dothy etc. We have different workshops to produce wood furniture. Food production unit under CHASS Khadi produces various food products like value added honey products, snacks, cakes and various fruits & vegetable products. Mallappally Beekeeping Cluster

KVIC has sanctioned one Major Honey Cluster to CHASS for promoting 538 Beekeepers in Trivandrum & Kollam districts. The Common Facility Centre is to be set up at Amboori in Trivandrum district and the preliminary works are ongoing.
