RURAL COMMUNITY HEALTH

i) Ashakiranam Cancer Care programme

Ashakiranam Cancer care programme is a joint venture of CHASS and Caritas India for the prevention and mitigation of Cancer and other lifestyle diseases. The activities under the programme are as follows;

    1. Promotion of Organic Kitchen Gardens
    2. Cancer Detection Camps
    3. World Cancer Day Observation
    4. Food Kits Distribution for Cancer Patients
    5. Live Free Cotton Sanitary Pad
    6. Pink Day Observation to raise awareness against breast cancer
    7. Asha Kiranam Expo
    8. Cancer Survivors Meet

ii) Grahalakshmi Home Nursing Service

Families where bedridden patients are in dire need of professional nursing care are provided with home nurse assistance. Six trained home nurses are available for service on a rotation basis. Several people and families are benefitted every year under this programme.

iii) One House, One Toilet Project

One house, one toilet is a special project sponsored by Save A Family Plan, India (SAFP). SAFP disbursed a total of Rs. 43,75,000 to 175 families in 10 villages who do not have proper toilet facilities.

iv) Eye Test Camp

In association with Dr. Agarval’s Eye hospital, one free eye testing camp was conducted for the staff members, artisans and community organisers of CHASS.

v) Health Insurance

45 families received Rs. 224,080/- as medical expense reimbursement from the Health Insurance programme with New India assurance Company promoted by CHASS.

vi) Jal Jeevan Missioon Project:

The Jal Jeevan Mission is a massive and intensive drinking water supply project initiated by the central government, envisioned to provide safe and adequate drinking water through  individual household tap connections by 2024 to all households in rural India. The Central Government is implementing this project in collaboration with State Governments, gram  panchayats, Water authorities, and Implementation Supporting Agencies (ISA). CHASS is one of the ISAs entrusted with Vazhappally and Madappally GPs in Kottayam District and Nedumudy and Champakulam GPs in Alappuzha District.

vii) Sajeevam Anti-drug Campaign

CHASS launched an anti-drug campaign in collaboration with Caritas India and Kerala Social Service Forum, aiming to alert parents and the general public about the influence of Drug mafia among children and fight against the evil in collaboration with all the diocesan departments.

viii) Herbal Gardening for Health Promotion Programme

This is a project specially designed to create a healthy environment by promoting herbal gardening, promotion of home remedies and alternative lifestyle for fighting against lifestyle diseases. Under this project CHASS promoted Herbal gardening in one lakh households in its operational area in collaboration with Eco-green Herbal Mission Society.
